About this project
I created this project because I have a younger sister adopted from China. She and I live in the UK and go to a school that, although international, has children who aren't educated on the topic of adoption, and so she often receives questions. Even though the comments from her peers aren't intentionally hurtful, they can be very offensive. This issue is very common for adopted children. Teachers and counselors don’t usually have an understanding of the right language to talk to the primary classes about these issues, and the children's books that do deal with these topics are only focused on the adoptees and not on their non-adopted peers (and the books can be very expensive and consequently are only bought by the adoptive families). These videos aim to fill this resource void and provide teachers, counselors and parents with helpful materials that they can use to help non-adopted children learn better ways of communicating with their adopted peers on the topic of adoption.
